James B. Carey was born on August 12, 1911, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was president of the Radio and Allied Trades National Labor Council from 1933 to 1940, and president of the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America from 1936 to 1941. Care was founder and president of International Union of Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers, AFL-CIO from 1950 to 1965, and served as AFL-CIO vice president from 1955 to 1965.
